A Message from Our Patron
On behalf of the Srinarayanathas Foundation, I welcome you to our website.
Â
The Srinarayanathas Foundation is a registered charitable foundation in Canada that draws its inspiration from a hundred-year legacy of philanthropic giving that began with my great grand uncle, Muhandiram Narayanar. While he diligently provided for his family, he always reminded us of the greater commitment that we have to those around us. This sense of social responsibility was inherited by my father who had a stellar reputation for managing the cooperatives sector in a principled manner. Their strong work ethic and commitment to community are habits that I’ve tried my best to emulate in my own life, and I’m pleased to see it now being carried forward by a new generation of the Srinarayanathas family.
Â
Our approach to philanthropy is driven by our vision to become an innovative philanthropy organisation that is at the forefront of transforming the future of charitable giving in Canada and around the world by providing holistic, sustainable, and barrier-free support for charitable causes. This requires us to look beyond current impact investing trends and to draw from our own lived experiences of immigration and socioeconomic challenges in order to holistically address the needs of those who feel invisible, unheard and marginalised, whether here or abroad.
Â
It is on this basis of my family’s experiences that we have decided to focus our mission on key priorities such as civic engagement, healthcare, education, and the creative arts. Each of these focus areas holds great personal meaning for me and I consider it a privilege to be able to shape the impact of the Srinarayanathas Foundation as we move forward with our work.
Â
Thank you.
Navaratnam Srinarayanathas

Philanthropy and Reconciliation
Philanthropy is the desire to promote the welfare of others. But where does welfare promotion begin? Where does it end? And what happens in between? As philanthropists, what must be our role in helping others achieve their freedom?
Oftentimes, the work of a philanthropist gets completed in a single, transactional exchange of a donation. While this may have a short-term appeal, it is limiting and frankly a setback for individuals, communities, and the world as we know it today. That is why, at the Srinarayanathas Foundation we not only prioritise a holistic approach to delivering sustainable solutions to charities, but we keenly invest in decolonising mindsets, practices, and structures that prevent individual and collective healing.
The Srinarayanathas Foundation is committed to creating awareness of the past, acknowledging the historical and continued harm inflicted on the original peoples of our land, and implementing consistent actions that change behaviours and create impactful change that will be felt for generations to come. For us, this is a necessary part of reconciling and building mutually respectful relationships between indigenous and non-indigenous peoples in Canada and around the world.
